Mark McAfee and his three brothers Eric, Adam and Andrew run the dairy. Mark used to be a helicopter paramedic and his wife is an RN. They know the debilitating effects poor nutrition can have on cows and on people. They are both passionate about supporting raw milk, because of its wonderful health benefits for people in general and in particular for those with poor nutrition.
Before founding Organic Pastures, the McAfee family grew organic alfalfa to feed to their own cows, and began selling their organic milk to Organic Valley. The were selling so much milk that, just for the heck of it, they published a web site about raw milk. Within minutes the public, hungry for raw milk, started calling them, wanting raw milk. People drove for miles to purchase this fountain of nutritious liquid from cows that graze on sunny pastures and produce flavorful, life-giving whole nutrition. Because of the huge demand, Mark and his family started selling raw milk in 2001.
Mark told me that up until now, raw milk has always been legal in California. When raw milk is tested, no pathogens are ever found, because the raw lactic acid prevents pathogens from growing. However, there is a concerted effort underway by the national Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to eliminate the production and sale of raw milk. Unfortunately, the California FDA (CFDA) is on a path of bringing its own policies into alignment with the policies of the national FDA - hence, AB1735.
What it boils down to is that this is another battle in the fight to preserve our right to eat whole unprocessed foods. A law was slipped by us, and we lost the right to eat raw almonds - they are flash-pasteurized. AB 1735 was slipped by us, and we're in danger of losing access to raw milk. It sounds like it's still raw milk - the law allows for the killing of the natural enzymes that make raw milk so desirable, and then allows it to still be called "raw" - but it is no longer the same product.
An effective way to control people is to put us in fear. The powers-that-be want us to be afraid of raw milk and will not hesitate to publish misinformation and false claims to influence public opinion. The health benefits of raw milk are astounding and my family has been drinking raw milk for years. Preserving our right to take care of our grown-up selves is what America is supposed to be all about. We can't let them get the better of us in this fight -- if they win here, where will they stop? It's our freedom of choice. We must stick together and stand up for our rights and freedom. United we stand.
This is what Mark is doing:
1. Meeting with the state of California -- he had his first meeting and is scheduled to have a second meeting soon.
2. Suing to stop AB1735.
3. Working with The Whole Foods grocery store chain, which has stepped up to the plate and contacted an assembly member to introduce legislation to overturn AD1735.
What we can do:
1. Donate to the Farm-to-Consumer Foundation - funds are earmarked for the AB1735 Legal Defense Campai https://www.ptfassociates.com/secure/ftcldf/ftcfdonation_ab.asp
2. Tell a friend about raw milk, its benefits, and how close we are to losing the right to consume it. Forward This to a Friend
3. Call, write and/or email the Governor's office and your local legislator (go to http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/yourleg.html and enter your zip code to find out who your legislators are)
4. Send us your testimonials about how raw milk has contributed to your health and well being. email@example.com
5. Stay aware of what is going on around us in the Legislature which has an impact on our right, our ability and our freedom to consume food and other products that might not be in alignment with FDA policies.
6. Stay tuned to the Fountain of Health newsletter for future information on how to help pass the new bill, which will be introduced in February 2008.
Movies I can recommend.....
One of my husband's and my favorite things to do is go get lost in a movie. But lately it's been kind of hard. There hasn't been one movie I would recommend. Then, BANG! Two great movies in 1 week. I know -- it was hard for me to believe too.
The first one we went to -- with quite a bit of trepidation on both our parts -- was Dan in Real Life. The main character is Steve Carell, most noted for his work in the series "The Office" as well as The Forty Year Old Virgin, a movie that has a LOT of crude humor. The synopsis of the movie sounded genuinely okay, like maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't be that bad. So off to the theater we went. To our pleasant surprise, the movie was charming. It is a good date movie as well as a movie you can take your kids to.
The next movie was a huge surprise for me, Lars and the Real Girl. The main character is played by Ryan Gosling, the young hunk in The Notebook (if you haven't seen The Notebook, you absolutely must). Anyway, Lars and the Real Girl was such a sweet movie, I can't recommend it enough. The premise seems very weird and you wonder if it is going to be sexually bizarre but it is far from it. You will fall in love with the all the people in the movie. I hope everyone goes and enjoys these little gems.
Last but not least was a DVD rental called The Peaceful Warrior. My husband doesn't like thrillers or suspense so I am always on the lookout for movies with messages, sweet movies or simply movies that are not violent. I came across The Peaceful Warrior and thought, "Hmm, maybe it will be good". Not only did my husband and I both enjoy it immensely but the next morning I had my 16 year old son watch it. He was moved. When it was all over I asked if he wanted to talk about it. He said that he wanted to run for a while and think about it. I'm looking forward to the conversation that will happen, as it usually does, a week or so down the road. www.thepeacefulwarriormovie.com
I hope you enjoy my suggestions,

|Dear Subscriber |
I just heard about a new law, Assembly Bill (AB) 1735, that was passed in the last legislative session which will have a real negative impact on a valuable nutritional product, raw milk. I am a long time consumer of raw milk and a firm believer in its remarkable health benefits so naturally I became quite concerned about this. I decided to call Mark McAfee, founder of Organic Pastures raw organic dairy, for more information and for his own story. Let me tell you a little bit about Mark and his family business.

Fight the Mid-Day Slump!
Fight the Mid-Day Slump!
It's 3:00 P.M. You're sitting at work, hunched over in your chair, your eyes half closed, your brain on autopilot and you're counting the minutes until you can clock out and go home. You are experiencing the mid day slump! We are all familiar with the symptoms of the slump: the mental fuzziness, the lack of energy that leads to sugar and coffee cravings -- we will do or eat anything to feel better!
The answer to overcoming the slump is much easier (and healthier) than making a trip to the vending machine for a bag of chocolate that offers only temporary energy. All you have to do is DRINK WATER! That's right, tip back on a tall glass of nature's cure-all and say goodbye to your afternoon blues.
Scientists have discovered that the hydration level of the body is deeply connected with energy and performance. Our bodies are 70% water and even a 2% dip in hydration levels can cause fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with math and difficulty focusing on a computer screen or printed page (sound familiar?).
Fight back! Stay Hydrated!
Dr. Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, an Iranian doctor, was a champion water's ability to cure and prevent disease. After 20 years of research on the subject, he published a book entitled Water Cure in which he states, "You're not sick, you're thirsty. Don't treat thirst with medication." His researched showed that many of our health and energy problems directly correlate to our lack of water consumption and can be reversed by simply drinking more water! To learn more about his findings, Visit Water Cure Website
Have More Energy Today!
Start the day off right by drinking 32 ounces of filtered water upon rising. A Japanese research study found that drinking this amount of water on an empty stomach BEFORE getting out of bed, brushing your teeth, or eating breakfast allows the body to build defense and hydrate before starting your day.
It Really Works!
After learning of this research, I starting drinking 32 ounces of water in the morning before I even get out of bed. I've been doing it for 4 years and have seen dramatic improvements in my health. My skin is clear and soft, I haven't had any major colds or infections in years, my digestive health has improved, I don't get fatigued as easily, and the list goes on! I feel great and I want everyone to have this experience.
Start drinking more water today! If you can't drink the entire 32 ounces on the first day, that's OK, start smaller and work up to it. I think you'll be surprised to find that it was easy to drink the water and you felt good afterward. Pay attention to how you feel throughout the day and look for improvements in health, skin and energy levels. The vending machine may be lonely without you, but you and your water bottle will be so energetic together that you will never think of taking a 3:00 P.M. chocolate break again!

there are so many products to choose from to help with your skin. How do you know which is the best product line to spend your hard-earned money on?
In the past I spent tons of money on a variety of different facial products hoping to clear up my acne, with very little success. This experience led me to Esthetician school to learn about the largest organ in the body (our skin) and how it functions. My biggest success to improve my own skin as well as my clients' skin is taking the time to read ingredients, and using the best treatments available. The most important thing to do is to avoid using unsafe chemicals in personal care products. Remember, whatever you put on your skin, the skin absorbs!
Find out if you're using unsafe products by going to the Skin Deep web site Visit Skin Deep Website
Skin Deep is an environmental research company that pairs ingredients in nearly 25,000 products against 50 definitive toxicity and regulatory databases. Type in the name of the product you are currently using to find out if it is safe. Some of the products that rated high on the list were Oil of Olay, Arbonne, Mary Kay, Dermalogica, and Obagi just to name a few. .
At Fountain of Health Medi-Spa & Learning Center, we use the Cosmedix line of chirally-corrected ingredients and treatments to treat our clients' skin without jeopardizing their safety and well-being.

I came to FOH after reading Kevin Trudeau's books on natural cures. As part of a general detoxifying program, I expereinced my first colonic and decided to combine colonic with the Standard Process cleanse.
The weekly colonics were relaxing and I found the Standard Process Cleanse helped establish an even energy through-out each day.
I was able to adopt it to my changeable work schedule and found it easy to go for hours without craving carbohydrates. My sinuses cleared, my body feels light and I sleep better at night.
I appreciate the quality of the health products and services offered at FOH. The freindlies, inspiration and professionalism of the staff create a welcoming atmosphere. Thank you for being a quiding light toward better heatlh in our community.
