From the Health Queen
Dear Subscriber ,
I was with my daughter and a couple of her girlfriends and they asked if we could go by Jamba Juice for a smoothie. I said, "No, I have fresh fruit from the farmer's market at home." When we got home I washed up some fresh cherries and peaches and cut open a watermelon. They were like starved pigs at a trough of food thoroughly enjoying their feast. I said, "Isn't this better than Jamba Juice?" Yes, they replied, this is awesome. The calories they saved from eating fresh fruit opposed to sugary junk are equivalent to an entire meal.
I remember my daughter asking me if she was going to be overweight when she got older. I knew she was asking this because I was overweight myself. I told her no, and then I asked her, "Do you eat when you're hungry, and do you stop when you're full?" lf your answer is yes, then you won't be overweight.
I have my own emotional issues for my obesity, and I'm not going to instill my emotional eating into my children. I have 6 slim, healthy, beautiful children. I know childhood obesity is reaching an epidemic level. I think of the harm being caused when a child is overweight, the teasing he or she suffers, the exclusion and the lack of self-esteem.
Children naturally want to be thin. They are taught to be overweight and for that we adults are responsible. I have been thinking about teaching a class to adults on how to handle our children so they don't become overweight.
I recall my daughter being hungry when we went to the grocery store to get food for dinner. She wanted a cookie, so I said she could buy the cookie but she couldn't eat it until after she ate some protein when we got home. Grumble, grumble. We got home, she ate some chicken -- and then ate only half the cookie and threw away the rest. If she hadn't eaten the protein first, she would have eaten the whole cookie. I explained to her that her blood sugar was low and that's why she wanted the cookie. When she ate protein it stabilized her blood sugars. She noticed that she'd only wanted half the cookie, and to this day when she is hungry she grabs protein first.
If you're interested in the many tricks I have learned over the last 29 years of raising slim, healthy, beautiful children, I am willing to share them with you.

Soy-Things You Didn't Know, But Should by Megan Zbyczik, Just call me Zee
Nutrition & Weight Loss Expert I've been getting a lot of questions lately about soy and soy products (think soymilk, tofu, veggie burgers, etc.), so I figured I'd share a little bit of what I know with all of you. Soy is one of those products that has been dubbed a "miracle" food, and is one of the most widely used ingredients in world-wide food production. But is it as good for you as they'd like you to believe? Here are some things for you to read and chew over.
During early Chinese dynasties, the soybean became one of the five sacred grains - along with barley, wheat, millet and rice. However, the soybean wasn't always used as food; it was originally used in crop rotation to fix nitrogen (a process which helps plants build amino acids by "fertilizing" the soil with nitrogen). The soybean didn't become a food until the discovery of fermentation techniques, some time in the early 1100 BCE.

You Need Good Fat to Burn Fat
by Eve Mayer
Two things happened this last month that made my heart sing. When you are in the kind of business we're in sometimes you feel as if you are forever swimming against the current. The traditional medical establishment is pretty much at odds with what we teach day in and day out. They say don't eat fat, we say eat fat; as a matter of fact, we say eat organic butter and basically as much as you want. The list of ways we differ goes on and on. We are constantly teaching clients to rethink their food choices and go back to the way we ate in a simpler time, before manufacturing got into the picture and big money became the FDA's reason for pointing all of America into this direction and that, like "don't eat saturated fat, it causes heart disease." They neglected to tell us that the ONE study done on PURE saturated fat was on -- Yes, you guessed it -- their very own trans fat "CRISCO." CLICK HERE to Read the Rest of the Story |
Pau D Arco - Cool Stuff
by Tamara Hanscom, Colon Therapist
Hello All, It has come to my attention that there is a very powerful healing tea called Pau D Arco. I learned of it from a couple of my clients.
One client is an organic tea maker and really knows her stuff. The other client of mine knew about it and said it's amazing. His parents own two health food stores in Canada, so these clients are both good sources. Apparently, this tea is the wonder tea to cure cancer, candida... and much much more.
One of my sources said that you can't buy it just anywhere. Not even Whole Foods or the Co-op. These sites are recommended for information on it Pau D Arco:
To get the genuine, highest quality tea, these are the recommended sites to buy it from: www.princetea.com (Las Vegas) or www.herb-care.com (Canada). It is important that as we learn about these things, we share the information. Hopefully, this will help someone who is in need of some great healing, and will do it for them.

Breaking News SB 201 passes key committees with all "yes" votes! SB 201 - The Fresh Raw Milk Act of 2008 - passed in both the Assembly Agriculture and Assembly Health Committees with 100% support and no opposing votes. We hope to work closely with CDFA and CDPH to bring SB 201 and its strong food safety requirements into law over the next few months. Later this summer, all of us will again be needed to continue efforts to lobby members of the Assembly for their support as we move forward to the vote on the floor of the full Assembly and the Senate.
A huge thank you to Senator Dean Florez; Josh Walters, Esq. (Florez staff); Assemblywoman Nicole Parra; Assemblyman Tom Berryhill; Walter Robb, President of Wholefoods; Christine Chessen, Co-founder CREMA; Dr. Robert Irons; Dr. Ron Hull; Dr. Ted Beals; Patty Glaviano (raw milk super mom); Sally Fallon, WAP; and Aajonus for their testimony and work to help pass SB 201.
And the greatest thanks go to the thousands of raw milk supporters and callers from all over California, the nation, and the world who passionately urged Assembly members to support SB 201. The bill is considered by many to be the premier model for how raw should be regulated in the future. If passed it will be the raw milk standard and bench mark.
It is not over and it is not law yet, but we are so much closer now than ever.
Most kind regards,
Mark McAfee OPDC

Success Stories
My lifestyle has been quite healthy. I don't do drugs, smoke or get drunk and I am very aware of the quality of the food I eat. The thought of getting a colonic absolutely disgusted me and I was highly skeptical. Then I learned about the schedule of a strong, healthy colon - and as healthy as I thought I was, my colon was definitely not functioning up to par. Feeling a need to be "cleaned," I pushed all of my fears and judgments aside and got my first colonic. I was absolutely stunned at the results. Not only do I feel much stronger physiologically - but the place that I feel the most improvement is spiritually! Since I started receiving colonics reguarly, I have been able to out-grow old behavioral patterns and reach my higher self. I truly believe that I have been able to do this because of the removal of old, physical "junk" that used to be in my body. It has absolutely changed my life and fast-forwarded my progress as an evolving human. I am so lucky and feel so light! Jessica Mayer Pro Design Studios San Francisco, CA | |
